Body Types vs. Lock Types

There are a few main types of bodies or profiles: padlock, cylinder, interchangeable core, and Euro. There are also many different types of locks themselves, these reside in the body/profile. Some examples of locks are pin tumbler, dimple, warded, and magnetic. Pin tumbler locks are the most common as well as the most commonly picked.

They are mainly used to clasp things together in their shackles namely gates, lockers, or chains.

Cylinder Cylinder locks come in many types as well: Mortise, Rim, Key in Knob or KIK.
They usually fit into the door and turns the actuator to lock the door.
